A. The committee was
formed pursuant to instructions No. (9) of 1991, and is headed now
by the Minister of Agriculture. The committee is comprised of a
number of specialists from the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of
Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Ministry of Sciences
and Technology.
B. The committee is aiming
at registering and/or adopting varieties and hybrids of various
locally-derived or brought-in crops, and releasing them for sowing
after carrying out experiments investigating the data of the
new-variety, its suitability for the local climate, and its
superiority to prevailing varieties with more than one feature. This
is to be in accordance with the above mentioned instructions;
C. All the data and the
specifications of the new variety are documented in a special
bulletin published by the committee as: "Agricultural Varieties
Bulletin". The committee has published two issues and the third is
in press at the present time;
D. The committee is
presently working in cooperation and coordination with research
centers of the above mentioned ministries. As well, many specialists
from universities, institutes, and research offices are
participating in its activities; and
E. The committee also registers seed production companies wishing
to supply the Iraqi market.
